Convicted Laser Hair Specialist Forfeits Right to Practice

Gilles Peyrot Des Gachons was sentenced on Friday to two years probation after he pleaded guilty on June 14 to charges of unlicensed practice of medicine, third degree; and two counts of possession with intent to distribute a prescription legend drug, third degree, Somerset Prosecutor Geffrey D. Soriano said. Des Gachons will not be able to apply for a medical license in the state as a condition of his probation, according to Soriano.

Des Gachons has also been sued by former client Nicole DellaTerza, of Basking Ridge, according to a report by MyCentralJersey.

Soriano said that on Dec. 19, 2011, investigators received a complaint from a former patient who was injured while receiving laser hair removal treatments from Des Gachons at Advanced Medical Laser in Warren between January 2010 and May of 2011. An undercover investigator introduced himself as a doctor to Des Gachons, who went on to explain several procedures that he could perform, including laser hair removal, Botox injections, and hialuronic acid injections, Soriano said.

Des Gachons also indicated that anesthesia may also be used during some of the procedures, and an examination table and medical equipment were observed by the investigator, Soriano said. A search by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners concluded that Des Gachons did not possess a New Jersey medical license, Soriano said. He also was found to not possess a license to practice as a cosmetologist, manicurist, or skin care specialist, according to Soriano.

Another undercover detective met with Des Gachons on Feb. 27 at a new office on Mountain Boulevard in Watchung, according to Soriano. Des Gachons discussed procedures for Botox injections and laser hair removal, Soriano said. Detectives searched the office following the conversation, and found drugs such as effervescent codeine, lidocaine vials, Botox vials, syringes and a scalpel, according to Soriano.

Des Gachons was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Paul W. Armstrong. The undercover investigators were with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs State Board of Medical Examiners and Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. Assistant Prosecutor Jamin Cooper represented the state in the case.
